Ministries I Support
Reasons To Believe - To whom I give of my time and talent. RTB is a large part of my formal ministry for spreading the gospel and equipping other Christians to do the same.
Not only does the Bible tell us to preach the gospel, but it tells us to provide for the physical needs of those who are less fortunate:
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? (James 2:15-16)
The following ministries provide for the physical as well as spiritual needs of those who are less fortunate than us.
World Vision - We sponsor children from third world countries who would, otherwise, not likely survive childhood. World Vision is a very well-run ministry, which spends only about 10% of its income on organizational expenses, with the remaining 90% going to fund ministry projects. Besides helping individual children, their families and their communities, World Vision reaches out to entire nations who are suffering as a result of war or famine. They insist upon being part of the entire operation - from obtaining food and medicines to delivery and distribution - thus ensuring that the people in need actually receive the needed supplies. Other organizations often leave the distribution phase to the governments, which are often corrupt and sell the materials on the black market. World Vision is a large ministry which provides for both the physical and spiritual needs of children and families worldwide.
Lifewater International - Every day
30,000 children under 5 years old die from water-related diseases. Lifewater International
is trying to change this by providing the equipment and expertise to train native peoples
in rural areas to obtain fresh drinking water. The organization has over 100 volunteer
well drillers, hydrogeologists, mechanical engineers, environmental scientists and
businessmen. These volunteers travel to developing countries and train nationals to
improve their water supplies. They leave all necessary equipment with a trained crew
and continue to provide technical and financial support. The national crews are then able
to share the free gift of clean water with their neighbors and break the cycle of disease
and poverty caused by unsafe drinking water. Since 1979, they have completed over 650
wells, providing fresh drinking water to over 200,000 individuals. Lifewater is a great
small ministry, which provides for the basic need of clean water to those who have none.
My wife and I have been giving each other the gift of fresh drinking water for others in
place of Christmas present for the last couple years. I encourage you to support this much
needed ministry.
Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse - A program for giving Christmas shoeboxes to needy children throughout the world. If your church is not currently part of this program, contact them to find out how to become involved. Encourage your children to become involved in providing a shoebox to some less fortunate child. Shoeboxes must be received before the end of November (usually before Thanksgiving) to ensure distribution by Christmas.
