In a televised debate in 1997, Kenneth Miller, Professor of Biology at Brown University, called Hedylepta the "best example of evolution" and claimed that the genus had evolved, "mouthparts that only allow them to feed on bananas." The son of a Reasons To Believe apologist was so convinced by the story that he went from being a creationist to being an evolutionist. I decided to do some research on the topic and spent a couple months digging through the literature to become an "expert" on these moths. It turns out that Miller got the kind of Lepidoptera wrong, the genus wrong, the number of species wrong, the claim of specialized mouth parts wrong and the requirement that changing food source requires evolution wrong.
